How to get clay in Deep Dish Dungeon

Clay comes from goo piles, and only the pickaxe breaks those piles. A few spawn points restock. Chests and enemies are not listed as sources. There is no crafting recipe.

The iron key does not use clay. The large furnace eats coal, scrap metal, and a mold. Clay’s crafting jobs are the oven, the smelter, the water pot, and the statue mold. The sixth statue in the statue puzzle costs 16 clay.

What I do with the first stack

I treat the first clay as a station material, not a key ingredient. NPC Tips, reading build 25955406, lists four clay jobs: the oven, the smelter, the water pot, and the statue mold. The sixth statue in the statue room is the only counted cost I could find: 16 clay. Everything else is “uses clay,” with no published quantity.

1. Find the pickaxe. It has no recipe, so a missing craft button is normal.
2. Break goo piles with that pickaxe. A few spawn points restock. Chests and enemies are not listed as clay sources.
3. Build the smelter once you also have scrap metal. That station is what later turns scrap and coal into iron rods.
4. Save 16 clay before you spend the stack on extra stations if the statue puzzle is already on your route.

Still missing

A room-by-room goo map is not public, and the drop chance is a file weight, not a published percent. I am not going to invent rooms. The break-goo page is the verb version of this same chain.
